Effingham Park Board members heard this week that signup for fall sports is strong.
Park District Director Jeff Althoff said 200 players are signed up for flag football, plus there is a waiting list. Althoff said there are 320 players signed up to play soccer.
With the start of school and the beginning of fall sports comes the end of summer sports activity. Adventure Camp ends this week, and the Kluthe Pool will close for the season on Sunday as most lifeguards will no longer be available to work.
Althoff said work will begin soon to replace the playground at Evergreen Hollow Park. The playground, which is located by the brown pavilion, is 25 years old.
The Board heard that the incoming operator of the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex has some ideas for replacing some equipment. Althoff said that a couple of Board members were not in attendance, so the issue will be revisited next month. He said replacing some $50,000 in equipment is a possibility.
