Betty I. Phillips, 88, of Altamont, formerly of Beecher City, died at 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12 at Beecher City Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Allen officiating. Memorials may be made to the Beecher City Church of Christ or the donors’ choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Betty was born on Saturday, October 24, 1931, in Beecher City to Byron ‘Barney’ and Leah Hogge Little. She married Myron ‘Bob’ Phillips on July 3, 1950 and he preceded her in death on June 17, 2017. She was a longtime member of the Beecher City Church of Christ, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Effingham County Home Extension. Betty enjoyed reading, singing, flowers, knitting, crocheting and especially her family. In addition to being a mother and homemaker she had been employed at Norge, Parmenter Insurance, the Ramada Inn and the Altamont Pharmacy.

Betty is survived by her son Doug (Jeanette) Phillips of Altamont; daughter Carol (Dennis) Steele of Beecher City; sisters Carolyn Jean Nicholson of Chicago Heights and Pat Smith of Effingham. Grandchildren Daniel Steele, Chris Phillips, Ashley Phillips, Caitlin Phillips and great grandchild Brody Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
