Norma (Chesnut) Long, 93, of Effingham, IL, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, July 3, 2021. She joined her husband of 73 years of marriage, Kenneth Long.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Norma was born on October 17, 1927, in Bogota, IL, the daughter of William and Maude (Ferguson) Chesnut. She married Kenneth E. Long on July 30, 1946 in Mason, IL. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2018. Norma enjoyed baking, doing crafts, and sewing gifts for the residents in nursing homes. She worked downtown Effingham in several stores, including the Fabric Center and B and H Shoe Store.
Norma is survived by her children, Terry (Judy, deceased) Long, Joyce (Michael) Bateman, and Jerry Long all of Effingham; grandchildren, Cristi White, Kim Rogers, Tricia (Andy) Wendt, Ben (Cara) Bateman, Heather Case, and Kaylee Long; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Bernadine Long.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Judy Long; 5 sisters; and 1 brother.
