Mr. Bernard F. May, 82, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away on July 13, 2021.
Bernard was born in Taylorville, Illinois on October 22, 1938 to the late Adam and Mabel (Livergood) May. He retired in 1997 from the Altamont, Illinois School District where he was Superintendent for 24 years. He was active at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in LaGrange, a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Altamont Lions Club for many years. Bernard lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling, camping, golf and playing cards. He truly loved spending time with his friends, family and especially all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Robertson May; his children and their spouses; Cynthia and Mike Fritcher, of Brunswick, Georgia, Jeffrey and Sandra May of Lake Jackson, Texas, Julie and Brett White of St. Peter, Illinois, and Ellen and Jeff Koehler of LaGrange, Georgia; his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother John (Irene) May of Palm Bay, Florida and sister Mary Lou Fleigle of Morrisonville, Illinois.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Leah Karen May, his brothers Gerald May and Joe May, sister Bernadine (May) Clark, and a great-grandson, Hudsen Lauwers.
A come and go celebration of Bernard’s life will be held at The Family Gathering Center on the campus of the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL from 2 - 4 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here
