Darlene S. Detmer (62) of Effingham

Darlene S. Detmer, 62, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at her sister’s home with family by her side.

According to Darlene’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9th, 2021 at Country Haven Event Center in Effingham. Darlene was born on February 17, 1959, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Dorothy (Lohman) Heuerman. She married Vernon Detmer on May 9, 2008 and he preceded her in death. Darlene graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1977. As a young girl she enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and horseback riding. As a craft artist, she enjoyed macramé, painting ceramics, and writing short stories. Darlene was a caregiver by occupation and truly cherished her clients. She had a contagious personality that kept people laughing. Her potato salad, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf, were favorites among family and friends. Darlene was adored by her children who describe her as the strongest, most beautiful person they have ever known. Darlene was great at everything she tried and inspired her children to always have an open minded spirit. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and the prospect of meeting her newest grandson kept her going. She was the best grandma in the world who is missed very very much.

Darlene is survived by her children, Jordan Rich, Heather Rich (Christopher Lee), Shelby Rich, and Sydney Rich; grandchildren, Salina Rich, Jaden Rich, Ezekiel Rich, and Robert Lee; and siblings, Linda Sweetland, Judy Amacher, Jerry (Lisa) Heuerman, Rick (Jane) Heuerman, Jim Heuerman, Donna (Rick) Roedl, Wayne Heuerman, Barb (Danny) Shelton, and Roger (Martha) Heuerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Detmer; former husband, Ernest Rich; brother, Daniel Heuerman; sister, Lisa McIntyre; brother-in-law, Fred Amacher; and stepfather, Eldor Klitzing.
