Margaret M. Reiss (92) of Altamont

Margaret M. Reiss, 92, of Altamont, died peacefully at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Private family funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Rev. T. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Care Center, St. Clare Catholic Church, or the donor’s choice.

Margaret was born on Monday, August 19, 1929 in Effingham, IL to Charles and Dorathea (Fromme) Dirks. She married James Reiss on June 9, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2014 after almost 63 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Elmo Golf Club, Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger V.F.W. Post #7676 Ladies Auxiliary, Altamont, and a past volunteer with St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter Jane (Mark) Polivka, of Ellicott City, MD; 2 grandchildren, Jenna (Ryan) Muller of Brentwood, TN and Holly (fiancé, Paul Chaplin) Polivka of Richmond, VA; 2 great grandchildren, Ava Muller and John Muller; sister-in-law, Ramona Dirks of Effingham; brother-in-law, Charles ‘Brick’ Reiss of Altamont.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Robert Dirks; sister, Ann (Tom) Began; grandson, Steven in infancy; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae McCain, Phyllis Coleman, and Dorothy Augustine; and brother-in-law, Robert Reiss.
