Patricia Slate, 91, Nashville, TN, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021.

She was born Patricia Elaine Griffin on October 9, 1930 in Teutopolis, Illinois to John Harold Griffin and Luella (Siemer) Griffin. On September 11, 1954 she married Joseph Frank Slate in Teutopolis. He died January 20, 2020. Patty is survived by 4 siblings—Judy (Terrence deceased) Murphy of Michigan City, IN, Linda (William) Kirk of Charleston, Illinois, John (Kathy) Griffin of Nashville, TN, and Stephen (Liz) Griffin of Washington, DC.

Patty graduated from Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO in 1952. She worked as a secretary for the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), a part of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), in Washington, DC where she met her husband. After they married they were assigned to Santa Rosa, CA and Tokyo, Japan. They left government service and moved to New Haven, Ct where Joe earned his MFA and Patty worked as an administrative assistant at Yale. Their next move was to Gambier, Ohio where Joe chaired the Art Department at Kenyon College and Patty worked in administration. They retired to Silver Spring, MD and later to Nashville. In the course of their lives they visited all 7 continents and 70 countries.

Patty was loved by all who knew her for her kindness, sensitivity, intelligence and grace.

Patty, in our hearts you hold a place that no one can ever fill. Rest In Peace.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on November 22 at Christ the King Church in Nashville followed by burial of ashes at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md.
