Barbara Smith (83) of Altamont

Barbara Smith, 83, of Altamont died at 6:35 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, surrounded by family at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 203 E. Division St, in Altamont – Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-7 on Friday, December 17. Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara Ann Smith was born on Saturday, October 15, 1938 at home in rural Altamont to John and Ida (Rohlfing) Bandelow. She married Kreed V. Smith on April 28, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was also a lifetime member. Barbara was Kreed’s partner in farming until 1984, followed by being employed at GoldDome Bank and State Farm Insurance, both in Lake Placid FL for nine and ten years respectively. Barbara also was a member of the Caladium Crafting Coop., had driven a bus for the Altamont school district, and was an avid Bunco player for over fifty years.

In addition to her husband of over sixty-four years, she is survived by; sons, Jeffrey (Bobette) Smith, Tampa, FL and Wendell (JoAnna) Smith, Olathe, KS; daughters, Victoria (partner Al Crytzer) Smith, Evansville, IN and Julie (Doyle) Wilson, Evansville, IN; grandchildren; Crystal Smith, Louis Smith, Taylor Smith, Brian Wilson and Natascha Jacob; several great grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, John and Ida Bandelow, siblings, Virginia (Robert) Osborne and Helen (Warren) Homann; two grandchildren, Angel Smith and Tiffany Hoyla. Online condolences may be made by clicking here.
