Eloise Butler, age 99, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 2:10 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Helia Healthcare in Newton, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Eloise, will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery, west of Latona, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service at the church. In loving memory of Eloise, memorials may be made to the Bailey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Eloise was born on May 14, 1922, near Latona, Illinois, the daughter of Pearl R. and Pearl I. (Martens) Clagg. She married Maurice Rife on November 21, 1945, and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1964. She later married Floyd Butler on June 11, 1971, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1995. Eloise graduated from Newton Community High School in 1942. Eloise worked at G.C. Murphy’s Dime Store in Effingham for many years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton. Eloise enjoyed sewing, walking and spending time with family and friends. She and her two sister Arlene and Wilma spent countless hours together and traveling.
Eloise is survived by: Daughters – Connie (Charles) Chapman of Hazel Dell, Illinois; Beverly (Garry) Beam of Newton, Illinois; and Debra (John) Crampton of Latona, Illinois; Grandchildren – Marc (Theresa) Chapman of Yale, Illinois; Corey (Candice) Chapman of Hazel Dell, Illinois; Danee (Randy) Ebeling of Newton, Illinois; Keith (Tina) Beam of Newton, Illinois; Cody (Sara) Beam of Newton, Illinois; John Crampton of Robinson, Illinois and Cord Crampton of Robinson, Illinois; 18 Grandchildren; 3 Great-great Grandchildren.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Bernell (Peggy) Clagg, sisters Arlene (Sylvan) Rife and Wilma (Lawrence) Cochran.
