
Elois (Lois) Jean Schlechte (89) of Effingham

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday April 1, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham with Rev. Mike Burdick and Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday March 31 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Lois Jean was born October 24, 1932, in Clay County, Illinois the daughter of John L. and Minnie B. (Wendling) Traub. She married Warren D. Schlechte July 20, 1952, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Louisville, Illinois.
Schlechte was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham She taught Sunday School for many years, starting when she was 15 years of age. She was a choir member, member of the church’s voters’ assembly, a member of the Altar Guild, and St. John’s Lydia Guild where she held offices as president, secretary, treasurer, and program committee. She was an Illinois Bell telephone operator, worked at the Effingham Water Department, Sears, and Cradle Plus.
Lois Jean is survived by her husband, Warren Schlechte; her children, Michael (Joanne) Schlechte and Cathy (Gary) Norris; grandchildren, Justin Norris, Heidi (Phil) Kinkelaar, Jenna Norris, and Hali (Devin) Frailey; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Carter, Knox, and Carson; and sister-in-law, Joan Traub of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Delbert Traub.
