Kenneth W. Haywood (48) of Effingham

Kenneth W. "Ken" Haywood passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.   

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to funeral services, Tuesday at the funeral home. Ken's family requests casual attire for the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Effingham County Relay for Life or St. Jude’s. 

He was born on March 9, 1974, in Arlington Heights, Illinois to Audrey Sue and Orville Haywood. He married Teresa (Wernsing) Stewart on September 25, 2009.  

Ken was a 1992 graduate of Beecher City High School.  After high school, he owned a DJ service and then later owned and operated Haywood Pilot Car Service.   After many years working over the road, he chose to go back to school at Ivy Tech Community College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate in Applied Science Degree as a Medical Lab Technician.  Ken received the Leon Blum award for having the highest-grade point average in the class.  

After graduation he started his career at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham where he worked for 6 years. Ken then went to work at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri until his illness. 

Survivors include his wife, sisters Susan (Jason) Martin, Dedra (Sandy Loy) Linn, Stacey Barker, and Jan Broussard; brother, Joe (Kim) Haywood, step-brothers, John Jackson and James Jackson; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Jane Wernsing, brother-in-law, Mike (Cristy Cornelius), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.    

He leaves behind his and Teresa’s beloved fur babies Austin and Raffle. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Orville, Jr.(infancy), sisters Lorita Aldana and Dorita Haywood, nephew Jonathan Warner, niece, Jessica Warner, uncles Marvin Haywood and Oland Haywood, step-mother Lucy Marcolini.
