
Elsie Mae Syfert (88) of Mattoon, formerly of Beecher City

Elsie Mae Syfert, 88, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Beecher City, IL passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, in the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL with loved ones by her side.
Elsie was born on December 2, 1933, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Cecil and Ruth (Chism) Taylor. Elsie married Richard “Dick” Syfert on August 14, 1954 and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage before his passing on August 28, 2016. Elsie was a wonderful cook and could be found cooking for her large extended family or cooking at Bobber’s Truck Stop in Effingham. Dick and Elsie served as the hosts at Hidden Springs Campground for many years and enjoyed traveling out West and staying in Donna, TX. Elsie also enjoyed bowling and spending time with her loved ones. She was a past member of the Beecher City Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children: Richard (Kathleen) Syfert Jr. of Sigel, Diana (Mark) Hollie of Ramer, TN and Debbie (Kevin) Turnquist of New Smyrna Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Sherrie Syfert of Decatur; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; son, George; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City with Pastor Kevin Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Hubbartt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
